Real Betis Balompié, S.A.D., commonly referred to as Real Betis or simply Betis, is a Spanish professional football club based in Seville, Spain. It was founded on September 12, 1907, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Spain. The club currently plays in La Liga, the top tier of the Spanish football league system, and has a passionate fanbase known as the "Beticos" or "verdiblancos".
Manuel Ruiz de Lopera, commonly known as Manu Betis, was the owner and president of Real Betis from 1992 to 2010. He is controversial in the club's history due to his financial decisions, which some argue led to the club's economic instability. Manu Betis oversaw the club's promotion to La Liga in 1994 and the winning of its first Copa del Rey in 2005, but also oversaw the club's relegation to Liga Adelante in 2009. After his departure in 2010, Real Betis went through several changes in ownership and management.
